…to get a pair of fringe cowboy boots like the ones Ashley Monroe wears in this video. Also, more tank tops and belt buckles and giant rings from Junk Gypsy and to wear my hair bigger and wilder and find an even redder lipstick. So basically, same. HELLO 2015.
country music
Hi y’all! I’m Leesa Cross-Smith, a homemaker. I’m from Kentucky and I’m sentimental and easily startled. And most days, if you opened my heart door it would look like this:
I write flash and short fiction, sometimes longer. I wrote a book called Every Kiss A War. My resting face used to get me in trouble a lot when I was a kid because I seem angry and/or upset when really I’m just thinking about cheese dip or baseball. SEE?
I do love cheese dip and baseball and this Nabokov quote: The softness and fragility of baby animals caused us the same intense pain. And this verse: But as for me, I will always have hope. Psalm 71:14.
I also love bro country and a lot of other music that scares people off. My fave album of the year is Montevallo by a guy called Sam Hunt. This song/video? I love it a lot. I like to put things like this out there from jump so people know what they’re dealing with. For example, I’ve been to 25+ DMB concerts. *crickets*
In all seriousness, Nashville was probably my favorite show this year. It got me through some ups and downs, the music is actually really heart-wrenching, and there are some hidden lessons about love, life, mistakes, and moving forward. Here’s some of my favorite songs from the show in both 2013 and 2014. Without irony, this music has helped me get through some difficult moments these past couple of months.
