The Laugh with the Lilt
Dr. Jannette Goddard-Finegold, 1948 – 2019
Fifty years
since we spoke
since we laughed together
We planned to meet again.
I read her poetry
She read mine
She died last Sunday.
My parents are gone,
a sister, a wife
those others
I guarded with my skill
but could not save
and Denise
her brilliance, her quickness
her kindness
and that delighted laugh
at her own work
The Day the Audience Walked Out on Me,
and Why.
