Both as cult members and impatient people, it perturbs us when the world does not end on the appointed date, as it’s supposed to, because then we have to wake up the next morning and either A.) select a new spot on the calendar for the forever-impending doomsday, or B.) restart our lives. And restarting one’s life can be very consuming work indeed—but the apocalypse still hasn’t shown up to the party and so what else is there to do but begin again, anew?
